In 2010, Hermès introduced a Limited Edition Kelly, that has since become a very popular Hermès bags in the secondhand market. Once it finds its way to a reseller, it is usually sold out again very fast. Hermès lovers and collectors might recognize the print on this Kelly bag. It was first used in 1974 on a Carrè scarf.
The designs of artist Jacques Eudel were incorporated in many scarves for Hermès, mostly featuring an equestrian scene, but were also used in bangles and porcelain goods.
The first scarf with a design of Jacques Eudel is called “Les Voitures Nouvelles” and was released in 1961.
However, his most well-known design for scarves is the “Grand Apparat”, depicting horses in ornate saddles. It is a very popular motive and was counterfeited often in the past.
The Couverture et Tenues de Jour scenery depicts horses covered in their blankets and is the inspiration for the canvas print used for the Kelly bag.
Taken from the scarf pattern and redesigned for the Kelly 32 bag.
Hermès produced this Kelly bag in two versions: Vert Canopee Toile GM canvas and a Fauve Barenia leather trim, as well as Rouge H Toile GM canvas and a Fauve Barenia leather trim. Both versions feature an Amazone shoulder strap and Palladium hardware.
If an Amazone Kelly Couverture et Tenues de Jour falls into the hands of a reseller, it usually is gone very fast. The combination of Art and exquisite craftsmanship is one of the reasons Hermès bags are one of the most coveted in the world.
